SJSU Special Collections & Archives exists to acquire, preserve, arrange, describe, and make accessible its rich holdings of rare secondary and primary materials to support the diverse teaching and research needs of undergraduates, graduates, faculty, staff, and the larger community. Documenting local and regional history as well as culture, politics, literature and selected art is our top priority.
The history and development of San José State University and the history of Santa Clara Valley is a story of diversity and change. Economic, political, social, cultural, and ethnic forces shaped and transformed this region from a rural environment to the technology mecca of the Silicon Valley. We believe that by collecting community histories, we can broaden the historical record and offer new resources for future scholarship. New histories will reveal the diversity of community life in this region; whether our ancestors were immigrants from Europe, Asia or other continents or they were California Indians or Hispanics; they all made significant contributions to the history and development of Santa Clara Valley.
Your donations of personal historical records or materials or funds to assist in the acquisition and processing of important historical documents will help us to reach our goal. Please consider giving monetary support to help us endow our collections through the Special Collections Pre-Endowment program. To donate please contact Rebecca.Kohn@sjsu.edu, Interim Director Special Collections & Archives for more information.
