Equipment & Software

SJSU Student Computing Services (SCS) provides eligible SJSU borrowers (i.e., SJSU students, faculty and staff) with laptop and iPad equipment, including pre-installed software, for use inside or outside of the King Library.

The following equipment is available for loan from SCS (depending upon availability - first come, first served, no reservatons):

• Coming Soon: HP 6460b Laptop (2012 model) (32 each)
• HP 6735s laptop [2009 model] (62 each)
  • Comes with power adapter and mouse
• HP Compaq 6515b laptop [2008 model] (17 each)
  • Comes with power adapter and mouse

The following software is pre-installed on each device:

Laptop accessories (available upon request):

• USB Floppy disk drives (these are legacy devices and provide extremely limited storage - 1.4 Mb - which may not even hold a single Word Document).
• Headphones with boom mic
  • These are NOT ear-buds. SCS does not loan ear-buds due to health risks. Users are encouraged to use their own ear-buds, which are interchangeable between personal listening devices (like smart phones, MP3 players, etc.) and the SCS laptops or iPads. There are a limited number of these headphones.
• NOT available: USB memory sticks or other storage devices (except Floppy Disk Drives). NOTE: USB memory sticks are available for purchase at the “On-Fourth” cafe’ on the first floor of the library, (the San Fernando side of the building).

NOTE: If you experience difficulty using wireless printing in the library, and if you are an SJSU student, faculty or staff, you may connect an SCS loaner laptop to the library’s wired public network, in the SCS office only, then print to any of the Pay-4-Print stations throughout the library - standard printing charges apply (ask an SCS employee for details).
