Reimagining Reproduction: An Art-Based Study of Reproductive Health CareDate & Time: Wed, Apr 16, 2025, 9 AM PDT/12 PM EDT
Drawing from a more extensive health study that centers on people's lived experiences with accessing reproductive health care, previous health research, and poetics, this study uses an art-based research approach to create erasure poems that detail how people deal with challenges in accessing reproductive health care. Specifically, these poems detail unparalleled truths about the needs and strategies that necessitate efforts to improve health access for the community. For example, discussions include the importance of community networks (e.g., friends and family members) along health journeys, creating better support systems for parents, and new understandings of challenges in accessing reproductive-based care.
By emphasizing personal narratives and lived experiences of accessing care, this session improves individual’s access to the health information, which aligns with the mission of NNLM. This session will discuss the importance of community networks when accessing healthcare and finding health information.
