This guide is designed to help SJSU students, staff, and faculty who have an interest in user experience.

Clubs + Organizations

  • SJSU Library Usability Participant Pool
    • The SJSU Library Usability Participant Pool is made up of SJSU students, staff, and faculty who are interested in helping us improve the Library's physical and digital user experience. Participants receive occasional invitations to take surveys, participate in feedback sessions, usability tests, or prototyping sessions, and more. Some activities will provide incentives for participant feedback. You may choose whether to accept an invitation to participate in any given activity.

  • User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA)
    • User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA) International supports people who research, design, and evaluate the user experience (UX) of products and services. UXPA International offers membership to anyone who researches, designs and evaluates the user experience, and student discounts are typically offered.
  • User Experience Student Group (UXSG) at SJSU
    • The User Experience Student Group at the San Jose State University School of Information (UXSG @ SJSU iSchool) was founded to help information professionals as well as MLIS, Informatics, and MARA students learn more about user experience and accessibility. All students and alumni are welcome. However, this group was founded specifically for the asynchronous nature of the SJSU iSchool.

      Members can choose from a variety of meetups and events, and everyone is welcome on the various social media channels, including Discord, Facebook, and Instagram.

Conferences

  • Designing for Digital
    • Designing for Digital is meant to bring together UX professionals, web designers, managers, researchers, strategists and librarians of all types to examine the current user’s experience of the library and design the future of libraries in the modern, digital world. A student discount is typically offered for the cost of registration.

       

  • World Information Architecture Day
    • The World Information Architecture Association (WIAA) hosts World IA Day, a one-day annual celebration held in dozens of locations across the globe. Presentations often include work from UX designers and researchers, graphic designers, content strategist, project managers, and information architects. Local iterations of the conference are typically free, and also offer volunteer opportunities - a great way to network and get your name out there!
