Finding Books

Books are important resources for many photography topics. Finding books on specific photographers or photos can be difficult because subject headings are often broad. For instance, a book such as American Photography, 1890-1965, From the Museum of Modern Art, New York  by Peter Galassi is likely to discuss a large number of photographers, though they won't be named individually in the library catalog. Nevertheless, the catalog record offers several clues to a book's potential relevance: the title keywords, the length of the book, and the assigned subject headings.

As you search, keep in mind that the catalog records for books a rebrief. If you are seeking books that will contain lots of images, look for titles with "exhibition catalogue" or "catalogue raisonne" as part of the description.
