Statement of Policy & Text

San José State University provides technical support services related to the use of King Library computing and electronic resources to eligible members of the SJSU community through the SJSU Student Computer Service (SCS).
Limitations on the use of the SJSU Student Computer Service are specified in the Requirements & Guidelines section below.

Need for the Policy

The SJSU Student Computer Service is funded through the Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) fee. The IRA fee is paid by currently enrolled SJSU students. Consequently, the services offered by the SCS are provided exclusively to currently enrolled SJSU students and to staff and faculty engaged in supporting student learning.

Although staff members will make reasonable efforts to maintain the computing resources and supporting networks and to provide accurate and helpful troubleshooting advice to all eligible members of the SJSU community, the Library provides no guarantees concerning the availability and performance of Library computers and network access or staff members’ abilities to solve problems with patrons’ personal computers.

The Library provides no equipment to patrons other than the publicly available desktop computers, laptop computers, and accessories available for checkout to eligible members of the SJSU community. Patrons assume all liability resulting from the use of the Library’s Internet connections, computing equipment, or from following the technical advice of a Library staff member.

Requirements & Guidelines

Eligible clients for this service are:

  • Currently enrolled SJSU students.
  • Currently employed SJSU faculty and staff.

All eligible clients must present valid SJSU photo identification (Tower card) and possess a current library account. A second photo identification must be presented if requested for confirmation purposes.
The SJSU Student Computer Service may not be used by:

  • The general public.
  • Students enrolled in educational institutions other than SJSU but not concurrently enrolled in SJSU.
  • Persons who have attended SJSU in the past or may be attending SJSU in the future but who are not currently enrolled.
