We support comments on our websites, blogs, and social media sites. The library respects all viewpoints and promotes healthy conversations online. Comments are expected to be civil and relevant to the topic being commented upon. Comments that comply with this policy will not be removed or prevented from being posted. No comments will be removed solely because they express a positive or negative viewpoint.
San Jose Public Library maintains a blog. Blog comments are reviewed prior to posting. We reserve the right to monitor all content. Our staff may modify or remove any messages or postings on any of our online platforms that is deemed to be:
- Not relevant to the content being commented on
- Profane language or sexual content
- Advertisements or spam
- Illegal activity or encouraging illegal activity
- Personal attacks, insults, or threatening language
- Personally identifiable information
- Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public, staff, or public systems
- Copyrighted or plagiarized material
We reserve the right to reproduce comments, posts, and messages. For example, a response to a Facebook post or blog book review may be quoted in a newspaper or on the SJPL or SJSU website. No personal information, other than first name, will be used unless prior approval is granted by the user.
Using Library Computers
You are expected to use library computers in a responsible and courteous manner. Computers are located in public areas and shared by people of all ages and backgrounds. Be considerate and respectful of other library customers and especially mindful of children in the library. Privacy screens are available upon request at all locations.
Due to safety measures, customers may reserve computers for a maximum of 45 minutes per day. All computers will be shut down 45 minutes after the hour.
For available Library devices including laptop and hotspots, please visit SJ Access: Free Internet & Tech Devices (sjpl.org). These devices have access to the internet, Microsoft Office Suite and may be connected to a wireless printer. Device check out is subject to availability. To check out a device, a customer must have a San Jose Library card that is in good standing and must sign the User Agreement. Our devices are protected by Deep Freeze. When the laptops are rebooted the laptop's hard-drive is returned to it's original state.
Student Computing Services is where SJSU students, faculty, and staff can borrow laptops, iPads, and more.
If you engage in any unauthorized or criminal use of the computer or any devices/ equipment, your privileges will be denied. When using public computers be sure to follow all posted guidelines and our behavior guidelines.
