Using Creative Cloud to Foster Digital Literacies

San Jose State University (SJSU) is an institution in the heart of Silicon Valley and most employers expect our graduates to be on the cutting edge of digital technology. While some of our students already are, most are not there yet. According to our partner employers, digital literacy, knowledge and skills are increasingly becoming a vital skill in the workplace. Our proposed project at SJSU intends to develop students’ knowledge and skills in digital literacy and demonstrate these skills through their final projects. We integrated technology literacy workshops within the curriculum, and introduce digital resources such as Creative Cloud and how they can be used in a variety of academic work such as digital storytelling, visual design, data visualization, and digital asset projects. Our goal of introducing and weaving the technology workshops into the curriculum, we sparked interest in SJSU faculty across disciplines to start thinking about redesigning their courses to integrate these workshops into their curriculum. At the same time, we expect SJSU students to further enhance their digital skills by continually attending technology workshops hosted by the MLK Library and SJSU partners.

The digital technology project aims to develop student competency and knowledge in using Adobe Creative Cloud tools to create digital assets that deliver impactful messages.
