What is Paraphrasing?

Picture of an ink pen on a paperParaphrasing means to take someone else's words or ideas and express them in your own words. This can be tricky to do. Here's one way to approach it:

1. Read the information.

2. Take notes on the ideas that support your thesis statement and that you want to use in your paper.

3. Re-read your notes and make sure you understand what the author meant. If you're having a hard time paraphrasing, you might need to read the information again.

4. Write it down in your own words.

5. Be sure to cite the original author.
