About the Sourisseau Academy for State and Local History

The Sourisseau Academy for State and Local History was established in 1971 through an endowment from Eva Sourisseau, who wished to honor the memory of her father, Felix. The Sourisseau Academy is a research unit of the Department of History at SJSU.

The mission of the Sourisseau Academy is to promote local history through sponsoring research, educational programs, and publications. We are actively engaged in the rescue of endangered archival documents and act as a clearing house for the placement of archival collections in appropriate repositories. The Academy maintains an extensive photograph collection and historical ephemera relating primarily to the history of Santa Clara County and the central coast region of California. The Academy staff, who are also historians, are able to provide research assistance to our archives as well as being knowledgeable about regional history.
