About Kingbot

KingbotGPT is an experimental AI chatbot created by the San Jose State University Library's artificial intelligence team.

As the newest iteration of the original After-Hours Kingbot Chatbot, it continues to support SJSU students when reference librarians are unavailable.

Outside live chat service hours, KingbotGPT steps in to provide essential library information and assistance. Need to know how to borrow a laptop? Looking for pointers on finding research? Kingbot can have a response in seconds.

How KingbotGPT Works

KingbotGPT uses Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to provide accurate library-specific information. The chatbot draws from continuously updated local datasets including:

  • Library website pages
  • Research guides
  • Frequently asked questions from previous interactions
  • Library floor plans

The system is built using LlamaIndex and Streamlit for the user interface and data management, while utilizing OpenAI's GPT 4o Mini as its language model.
