A French bronze bust of Beethoven cast from the model by Alfredo Pina (1883-1966), second half 20th century, the right side inscribed PINA, mounted on a verde antico marble socle, 17 cm. high; 26 cm. high overall. Lot notes: "During the First World War, Alfredo Pina took up residence in Montpellier where, in 1920, he modelled the first of three versions of a bust of Beethoven. In the same year he completed a bust of Wagner. Rodin's influence is unmistakable in each version and particularly evident in the present lot where the artist intentionally sacrifices detail and accuracy for emotive impart. Another cast of Pina's celebrated bust of Beethoven now resides in the Musée Fabre in Montpellier."
